When viewed in hindsight, my decision to become a literary agent makes perfect sense: I love discovering books and writers with distinct voices and points of view, and as I wasn’t planning on becoming a minister or priest after graduating from Harvard Divinity School, an assistant position in the Literary Department at the William Morris Agency was a fortuitous choice. One of the first books I ever sold was written by a fellow Div School alum.
From that auspicious beginning, I branched out to also represent romance novels, commercial women’s fiction, cooking and food writing, in addition to serious nonfiction on religious and spiritual topics. I appreciate a smart and quirky sense of humor and have represented novels told from the point of view of a dog.
I was the agent for Mother Teresa’s COME BE MY LIGHT: The Private Writings of the “Saint of Calcutta” and WHERE THERE IS LOVE, THERE IS GOD.
I represent Clotilde Dusoulier, Rachel Gibson, Sonali Dev, Glenn Meade, Travis Thrasher, Melanie Wallace, and The Cupcake Diaries by Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne. What I’m looking for: I am looking for writers in the categories mentioned above. What I’m not looking for: I am not looking for traditional fantasy or science fiction. How to contact me: Please submit queries to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the query letter and first ten pages of your manuscript or proposal in the body of the email. Please be sure to write QUERY in the subject line as this will ensure I do not miss your letter. Please note that though I review each and every query, I can only respond to those in which I’m interested. So, if you haven’t heard back from me within six weeks, it means I’ve decided I’m not the best agent for your project. N.B.: This email address is for queries and submissions only.
